If I didn't view my decision to be an artist as carrying some responsibility I knew I'd soon fall into that bracket of self-professed 'creative', forever pursuing half-arsed ventures destined for the bin or worse still, fifteen minutes of fame. The work I've produced so far stems from a sense of responsibility that is two-fold. I have an obligation to work as hard as I can on my chosen profession; but the only reason I chose this profession in the first place was because I always felt I had to share the stories that existed in my head.

Ideas have always been associated with weight. The initial excitement of a thought is always followed by that much more daunting problem of how to realise it. I live that anxiety and prioritise it above all else.

The quotation comes from W. B. Yeats whose poetry often takes this dilemma as its subject matter. It was also said by Keats (who died at 26) : ‘O for ten years…so I may do the deed/ That my own soul has to itself decreed.”

Nathalie has writing plays for the last few years one of which received critical acclalm at last years Edinburgh festival. she has just finished her first novel and is working towards and exhibition in October.

This is a website that explores the proposal that emotional complexity cannot be expressed online.The website uses a hypothetical, future fiction to suggest what the consequences of this could be.Out of connivence we use a medium (digital) that is dominated by systems that do most of our thinking for us, but machines don't think like people. There is no drop down menu that allows for a complex emotional state; I might feel elation, anxiety & loss all at the same time and this is not accounted for in digital media.

I want to open up discussion on this topic by creating an outcome which sits within the system it is questioning. The use of contrast, the unexpected & fiction all force the user to re-evaluate their day-to-day experience.

I've been modelling on and off since I was 13 I've always had fun but I never thought it was important.
I feel differently now. Everyday, whether it's through my blog or whatever, my life has more purpose
because I'm doing this. There are plenty of plus size models, but there are hardly any that represent
the mixed-culture generation that we're living in.

Part of the problem with the female body image comes from having so much access to unrealistic bodies. Celebrities are everywhere but there are hardly any role models that show that you can be beautiful
over a size 12. I get emails and letters from women all over the world about this, people who are sick
of being told that if you're not a tiny size 6, you can't look beautiful in clothes.

With my career at the moment, I'm stuck in a gap. Some plus size brands won't work with me because
I'm too "fashion," but fashion brands won't work with me because I'm plus size. It's and uoward struggle
but I'm doing my best to make my own imprint.

Fashion is so important to me. It runs in my family - my parents had a vintage business in Japan and it's
something I've been surrounded by since I was a kid. One of my favourite things about it is that it's
supposed to be challenging and that every day, you can change your mind about who you want to be,
you don't need to fit a cookie-cutter shape to look great. I know for a fact that using a good plus size
model creates a positive image. Our beauty and variety are part of fashion.
